NLP

Three years ago, I received a call from the Singapore Armed Forces.  They wanted to know if we would like to train a group of their Officers and Specialists in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Leadership.   To my surprise, when I met with one of their senior officers for a preliminary discussion, I found out he is already a Certified Practitioner in NLP!

.

Since the 1980′s, thanks to Dr John Grinder (the Co-Creator of NLP and a former Commando Officer), the US Army has been using NLP to train their military sharp-shooter and soldiers.  From what I know, the SAF is not that far behind in utilizing NLP.

.

Of course, in the beginning, I was rather hesitant to take on the SAF Officers and Specialists.  I was very concerned they would use this powerful technology to “brainwash” their recruits and subordinates, after all I was a victim of a “tekang” session some 22 years ago when I was a recruit.  But my concerns were unfounded,  I found the SAF has progressed tremendously over the last 20 years and  there is now a genuine concern for soldiers and their well-being.

.

Our NLP Master Trainer, James Leong, is the First in the World to complete a MBA Dissertation on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the Enneagram Personality Profiling System.
In his dissertation are the results (from objective Controlled Experiments) and statistics to scientifically validate the efficacy of Third Generation NLP in alleviating stress of the 9 Enneagram Types.
It is interesting to note that before James’ MBA Dissertation, many psychologists have regarded NLP as a pseudo-science.  This is because, in the past, the so-called “evidences” that suggested NLP’s workability were anecdotal or in the form of testimonials.

Every thoughtless, hurtful, and even harmful behavior had a positive purpose in its original situation.  Other ways to express this presupposition are:

Every behavior is useful in some context

Everyone is always doing what they believe is right

Everyone makes the best choice available to them at a given time, given the information or resources they have

The key is to appreciate the positive intention of the other person’’s behavior. Chain smoking to relieve stress.  Slashing other kids with choppers to feel significant. Yelling in order to be heard.

.

This does not mean that the behavior is the best possible choice (from an objective point of view).  Nor does it mean that the behavior will have positive benefits for anyone else.

.

Take for example, the recent gang members who go about slashing innocent individuals will certainly be jailed, however merely by locking them up may make them even more disgruntled.  To many reading this, justice is served, right?

.

Not quite, from the perspective of humanistic psychology and NLP… Rather than just condemning these actions, we need to separate them from the person’s positive intent so that new, more positive and empowering choices can be added that meet the same intent.

.

Likewise, to prevent such terrible crimes from perpetuating in future, school children needs to be taught how to generate more positive and empowering choices in handling their frustrations and teenage angst.

The Inner Game of Tennis Champion Andy Murray

Any one who aspires to become a Tennis Champions like Andy Murray could just copy his

  1. Training diet
  2. Winning strokes

However to really understand what makes him ‘Outstanding’ and beat Roger Federer to claim the Shanghai Masters title on the 17 October 2010 will require a deep understanding of what goes on inside his head (the Real Inner Game).

As you will know, more than 70% of our optimum performance is MENTAL!  So what was it that allowed Andy Murray to sustain his focus when the pressure and anxiety was building up as the game progressed?

What thoughts, values and beliefs supported him to ‘hold his nerve’ and beat Roger Federer?

Having a balance of both psychological and physical training is key in the success of a tennis champion.

According to ‘The Law of Correspondence’ (dating back many thousands of years), it states ‘As within, so without’.  An individual’s outer world (i.e. how you perform on a daily basis) is simply a manifestation of your inner world (i.e. your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes).  Thus, if you want to make a significant change on the outside, you must first have a paradigm shift on the inside.

NLP Coaching gives you the tools to know what goes on inside Andy Murray’s head – His Mental Strength.

To sum up, by booking a series of sessions with an NLP Coach you will experience the following benefits:

  1. Draw on into the times when you were performing ‘at your best’
  2. Pull off ‘your best’ whenever you need it
  3. Overcome mental limitations that are preventing you from achieving peak performance FAST!  Not in hours.
  4. A significant boost in performance on a consistent basis
