Before we proceed, we must first ask, What does NLP Singapore stand for?  For this is a common phase in the local personal development scene.

.

Here’s a hint… Is it

1) National Language Processing in Singapore
2) Name Lookup Protocol in Singapore
3) Nationwide Loan Processing in Singapore
4) Neuro-Linguistic Programming in Singapore
5) All of the above

Well if you choose (5) as your answer, you are right.  However, it our context here, NLP Singapore is Neuro-Linguistic Programming in Singapore (Or more precisely, it’s referring to the NLP scene in Singapore).

Now, probably the next question on your mind would be, “What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming?”

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) started as a form of Psychotherapy developed by Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder at the University of California at Santa Cruz around 1972. Back then, Bandler and Grinder spent many months studying some of the most gifted therapists such as Dr. Milton H. Erickson with his indirect form of hypnotherapy, Dr. Virginia Satir with her style of counseling called “Con-Joint Family Therapy”, and Dr. Fritz Perls with his Gestalt Therapy.   Rather than focusing their attention on the formal theory from which their practice drew, Bandler and Grinder were more curious about what was the difference that made a difference between these excellent therapists and others. The focus was on what these gifted therapists did in practice, especially their patterns of communication and interaction.

Even today, the majority of NLP Practitioner Programs taught in Singapore and Asia are very therapeutic in nature and steep in hypnosis because of Dr Milton Erickson’s influence.   Of course, both the therapeutic and hypnosis aspects of NLP has led many in the business community to shy away from NLP.

Albeit the fact that many Practitioners of NLP in Singapore has tried to re-brand NLP as a Science of Building Rapport and Modeling Excellence, most business executives and professionals were skeptical. Also, many psychologists have added that, unlike other forms of therapy like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, NLP has only anecdotal evidence in terms of testimonials and no objective experimental research that supports its effectiveness.

  • However in 2011, James Leong, a Singaporean became the First in the World to complete a landmark MBA Dissertation on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the Enneagram Personality Profiling System.

.

So what exactly does a “Business Practitioner of NLP” do?
