James, thank you for sharing your work, and congratulations on finishing successfully. It's great to see NLP research gradually beginning to get onto a more solid footing, and I think that your study will contribute to that movement.

Bravo! Totally agree with your stance against the misleading marketing of 7-day Practitioner Trainings.

In the end, what you get out of something has to do with what you put into it. Of course, time alone doesn't guarantee competence, but to suggest that you can accelerate the acquisition of the knowledge and skills of a 20-day programme into a 7-day programme is misleading nonsense.

Conscious integration of learning takes time to present, practice, assimilate, and connect with other learning, whatever methodology you use. To suggest the same breadth, depth, and quality can be achieved in 7 days as in 20 is dishonest.

The quantity of material covered is inevitably less and to suggest that the teaching methodology allows for accelerated unconscious integration is frankly bullshit. Where's the evidence? And what use is unconscious competence of complex knowledge and skills if you don't know how or what you know?

Sure maybe you can use accelerated learning to enhance acquisition of a language, speeding up the time spent mastering grammar and vocabulary. But NLP skills are of a different range and order and mastery of the field needs conscious as well as unconscious competence.

If the accelerated learning skills used in the 7-day practitioner trainings are so wonderful, let's use them to enhance the quality of learning of the 20-day programmes and achieve deeper knowledge and integration of what is already a far larger body of knowledge and competencies than most people can master even in 20 days.

If NLP teaching can't avoid trivializing itself, the field will not sustain itself and the poor reputation the field achieved in some of the earlier markets will repeat in the newer ones.

A serious methodology and discipline for modeling the magic of mastery in exceptional individuals, NLP may never escape, unfortunately, from the attraction of snake-oil marketing and the world of pop psychology.
